If you suspect that your laptop computer has memory problems and you have isolated all other possible causes, then you may need to replace the laptop memory. Additionally, if your laptop’s memory was not damaged, but you feel that you need your laptop to run faster in order for you to be able to open a greater number of computer software applications, you may want to perform a laptop memory upgrade. Either of these scenarios will require some light hardware maintenance of your laptop computer.

To perform a laptop memory upgrade, be sure to purchase computer memory or RAM (Random Access Memory) that is suitable for your brand and model laptop. Some laptop computers house one memory stick from the manufacturer and some house two. There are advanced models that have even more space available in the laptop for future upgrading.

If your laptop has two memory sticks installed, determine whether you want to upgrade both memory sticks or just one. Often, one of the memory sticks is relatively simple to reach, requiring only a screw to be loosened from a panel for memory replacement so replacing just one of the memory sticks with an upgraded stick is often an attractive option.

Be sure to consult the manufacturer’s tech manual for your exact model of laptop for instructions on how to replace the memory in your laptop. Many manufacturers’ make laptops that are very similar in appearance to one another, but can house completely different hardware.
